How to create frame at home

Making your own picture frame at home is a fun and creative task that also helps to save extra cash! Here is a brief self help guide on how to get started.
• Wooden molding strips to match your crown molding (these can be cut at your local hardware store)

• Saw and miter box (used in making right angles of 45 degrees in construction).

• Color sheet (preferably as thick and solid as possible)

• Glass or acrylic sheet (optional).

• Sand the edges

Apply putty and sand the surface (if you want a smoothly colored or stained frame) and rewarding DIY project that also saves money!

Here’s a quick guide on how to get started.

Materials You’ll Need:

Wooden molding strips (you can get these cut to size at a hardware store)

Saw and miter box (for cutting precise 45-degree angles)

           Wood glue

           Sandpaper

Frame backing (e.g., cardboard or foam board)

           Glass or acrylic sheet (optional)

Paint or varnish (if you want a colored or stained frame)

Steps to Create Your Frame:

1.         Calculate and Saw the Frame Parts

Take measurement of the dimensions of your photo or your artwork. For smooth corners, saw and miter the four wooden molding pieces at 45 degree angles.

2.         Assemble the Frame

Put timber joints on the angled sides and glue them with woods glue and squeezing corners to square shaped. Corner clamps should be used to keep corners in position until the adhesive sets if at all is possible.

3.         Sand and Finish the Frame

After the glue has set, smooth out any excessive or uneven surface with sand paper and for that squeaky clean finish paint or apply a coat of polish. In case you want to achieve a more old-fashioned look, choose between darker stains or those old-fashioned paints.

4.         Insert Glass and Backing

If you do not want any external influence to affect your artwork then cover it with a glass or acrylic sheet. Prepare a piece of backing material equal to size the artwork and then nail or clip the backing material in position on the wall.

5.         Attach Hanging Hardware

Put hooks in the upper part of the frame or use a wire for the frames’ suspension, and your custom frame is all set!
